Overseeing the Sabbatical Leave Application Form as a Chair or Dean

Once a faculty member submits their sabbatical leave application, you will receive an email with the link to the review form.

Important notes for reviewing the sabbatical application form:

  • Please do not change the pre-filled content in the form. Questions regarding your recommendation are located towards the end of the form.
  • Once you submit your recommendation, you will not be able to return to the review form. If you need to change your recommendation, please contact OVPFAA at apps@iu.edu.
  • The application form will allow for the department chairperson to attach a statement evaluating the proposed project and explaining scheduling adjustments that can be made within the department. Further guidance for chairs/academic associate deans can be found below.

Sabbatical Form Review Process

For sabbatical form reviewers: You are encouraged to communicate with the applicant at any time before submitting your recommendation form. However, we recommend using the online review form for routing and documentation purposes.

For example, if you need additional information from the applicant, please select “I need more information to make a recommendation” on the review form and submit it. The applicant will receive a link to resubmit the application, which will then be routed back to you.
