The Emeriti House is available to and welcomes all emeriti faculty and librarians of IU, including widows and widowers, spouses, partners, and guests.
Emeritus status eligibility and procedures
The Emeritus title may be conferred upon retirement if recommended by the unit and appropriate administrators and approved by the Board of Trustees. Units send a recommendation with justification to their school/College for support of the request. The request is then sent to VPFAA and Provost for review and approval. Final approval rests with the Board of Trustees. The justification should highlight the career and accomplishments of the appointee retiring. The Emeritus title can be extended on the retirement eDoc if approval has been received, or it can be processed at a later date. Note that Emeritus status does not necessarily require a faculty member to be eligible for IU Retiree Status.
