Faculty Satisfaction Survey

Results of our most recent survey

The most recent faculty satisfaction survey was completed in spring 2023 by 844 IU Bloomington tenure- and nontenure-track faculty. Overall, 55 percent of IU Bloomington faculty were satisfied or very satisfied with IU Bloomington as a place to work, and 60 percent would again choose IUB as a place to work.

COACHE Dashboard

The data from the COACHE Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey in 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2023 can be explored in the dashboard below. You need to log in with your IU credentials (all benefits-eligible academic appointees at IUB have access).

COACHE Dashboard: All Results 2013, 2016, 2019, 2023

You can learn more about the 2023 findings in a summary report provided by COACHE which also shows how we compare to some of our peer institutions who also participated in the survey.  In addition, IUB faculty committees have analyzed the 2016 data in more depth, and those reports are available below, as well.

COACHE Faculty Retention and Exit Survey

IU Bloomington is currently participating in the COACHE Faculty Retention and Exit Survey to collect systematic information on full-time faculty who received a retention offer or voluntarily moved to another university.

The study design allows us to compare faculty who received a retention offer and stayed at IU to those who moved to another university.

This is a multiyear study, and we will summarize and share key findings once it is completed.
