Faculty Exit Interview

Since spring 2025, Associate Vice Provosts Amanda Diekman and Jessica Lester have been conducting one-on-one exit interviews with faculty who have resigned from IUB. Invitations are sent by Wen Qi, Director of Faculty Analytics (OVPFAA), and participation is voluntary. Because the initiative is still new, participation numbers remain low. To ensure confidentiality and avoid re-identification, OVPFAA plans to report exit interview findings biennially.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the exit interview process is relatively new, OVPFAA is currently inviting tenure-eligible faculty members only, with plans to expand invitations to faculty of all ranks and retired faculty members in the future.

All information shared during the interviews is kept strictly confidential. Only written notes–no recordings–are stored on a secure server. Apart from the interview team, no other administrator, staff or faculty member have access to the raw data. Only aggregated findings, with no identifiable information, are included in biennial reports on faculty retention and departure trends.

Yes. The exit interview study led by OVPFAA is independent, and the results are not shared with schools and departments to protect confidentiality. Leaders at the school or department level are welcome to conduct their own exit interviews. A toolkit developed by OVPFAA can be found here.
