VPFAA provides opportunities and resources for faculty who would like to become involved in academic administration.
Campus leadership opportunities
Resources for department chairs
We offer a variety of structured workshops throughout the year for department chairs, providing guidance with administrative, personnel, and leadership problems that chairs face.
We also organize informal discussions with small groups of chairs called “Chair Chats.” If you are a department chair we will contact you with information on upcoming workshops and chats.
A small group of department chairs is also invited each year to participate as fellows in the Department Executive Officers (DEO) Seminar. This program is organized through the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and fellows participate in a seminar with other chairs from Big Ten institutions.
Academic Leadership Program
If you are a faculty member interested in any type of campus administrative leadership, you may be nominated by your dean to participate in the Academic Leadership Program (ALP).
This year-long program selects five fellows each year, and is coordinated by the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Fellows meet weekly with our office to discuss issues relevant to academic leadership, meet with campus and university leaders, and participate in three seminars with ALP fellows from other Big Ten schools.
