Kimberly is dedicated to guiding faculty members toward professional milestones at every phase of the career trajectory and in managing the challenges that may arise along the way. She is the campus liaison for the Departmental Executive Officers program and is committed to providing support and training to current and future campus leaders. She is the Director of the Initiative for the Advancement of Women Faculty and she coordinates the Women in Leadership series. Prior to joining OVPFAA, she served eight years as director of Hispanic linguistics, a year as interim chair, and five years as associate chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Arts and Sciences.
She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and is a faculty member in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. Her research focuses on the social meaning conveyed through language. She studies how second language leaners come to perceive and produce this information in their everyday interactions. She is author and editor of nine books and over 85 article-length publications. She is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the College of Arts and Sciences, David and Cheryl Morley Career Distinguished Teaching Award and the Carol Hostetter Lifetime Teaching Career Award (awarded by FACET).
