Judah M. Cohen is the Lou & Sybil Mervis Professor of Jewish Cultural Arts in the College and Professor of Musicology in the Jacobs School of Music. His scholarly work addresses music in Jewish history, culture, and identity; and he has pursued projects exploring music and public health, musical theater, and Caribbean Jewish history. From this research, he has produced four books, one co-edited volume, and over fifty articles.
Cohen earned his BA from Yale and his MA and PhD from Harvard; he held postdoctoral positions at Harvard and NYU. Since coming to Indiana University in 2006, he has won the Trustees Teaching Award twice, served four years on the Bloomington Faculty Council, and mostly recently completed a two-year term as Director of the Borns Jewish Studies Program.
